Welcome to the CLS Far-Infrared Collaboartion Site.

Some items to note on the left side of the page:

1. Discussions, FAR-IR Collaborations Site Suggestions  is currently the only topic but more will be added in the future.

2. Under Documents FAR-IR EXP, leads to a page containing a form that conatins most of the critical information needed to run a High Resolution experiment at the Far-Infrared Beamline. This form can be very helpful in planning your experiements.

3. Beamline information contains documents on beamline performance and other useful documents.

 NEWS

12/04/2009 - Wonderful news, the Article " Fourier transform spectroscopy of the CO-stretching band of O18 methanol" by R.M. Lees et al. which uses data collected at the CLS was #18 in the list of Hottest articles in the Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy between July and September 2009.

12/04/2009 - A new tool as entered beta testing on the Far-Infrared Beamline, this tool when activated will periodically check to make sure that the spectrometer is still scanning and should it stop scanning will start SKYPE and call a phone number provided by the user. This will hopefully give users the ability to go get some much needed rest feeling more secure that they will not lose beamtime. I would like to thank Gillian Black for coming up with the concept and writting the .bat file that makes this possible.

12/04/2009 - The results for the call for proposals for cycle 11 are in and the Far-IR beamline will be providing 212 General User Shifts between January and June 2010. This is more then any other beamline at the CLS (in fact it will be the most shifts provided since cycle 4 when the firt peer review committee met), and is a significant increase from the current cycle (148, also a high for CLS beamlines). It is also very encouraging to see that the number of user shift scheduled for Far-IR has increased every cycle since it started taking general users (for the last 6 cycles the number of general user shifts scheduled were 43, 60, 64, 84, 148, 212). This is a great acheivement and speaks to the dedication of the Far-IR user communittee.

8/20/2009 - The First New prototype Mirror Mount for the beamline has now been installed (M6). After re-alignment the throughput is at least as good as it had been with the old mount. This new mount should be more stable than the previous mount furthermore it has position feedback sensors allowing for the precise/reproducable positoning of the mirror. Testing continues...

7/13/2009 - New Transfer Optics to the 2 Meter Cell have been installed into the IFS 125 HR. The major difference between these new optics and the previous optics is that these are mounted on a set of magnetic kinematic seats. This should increase the reproducibility of the alignment between optic changes. A feature that will become increasingly important as new capabilities are added to the beamline.

5/10/2009 - I have added a Beamline information poster to the website. If any user of the Far-IR beamline would like to put up a beamline poster at any conferences they happen to be going to all you have to do is contact me and I will add your name to this poster print a copy and send it to you. This way the the beamline can get exposer at a greater number of conferences than any one preson would be able to attend, without placing to much bruden on the conference attendee.

5/10/2009 - Under OPUS Macro you will find a the macro I use to calculate Signal to Noise plots for bench marking. It is a fairly simple application using the OPUS S/N alogrithm step wise over a spectral region. The user can define the region of interest and the size of the steps. The results are saved in the same folder from which the raw data was taken and with the name  SN_(orginal data filename).

5/10/2009 - Interested in collecting data at the Far-Infrared beamline but cannot make it to Saskatoon ? General rules for "remote access" have now been placed on the beamline information page.
